Horizon Retail Construction

Horizon Retail Construction

Racine, WI

Designed in 2007 and currently under construction, the new 74,000 sf. Horizon Retail Construction headquarters is situated along Highway 20 in Racine. The site posed unique challenges and opportunities. The existing grade was heavily sloped from east to west on the site with an existing pond to the north. The location, orientation and elevation of the building was selected to minimize the amount of cut and fill required during construction while also providing a partial basement at grade level along the east and north elevations.

Horizon Retail Construction was founded in 1993 and has grown rapidly. Future growth is anticipated and measures were also taken to provide for future expansion to the south.

Phillips, Milewski & Associates has worked with Horizon Retail Construction for many years and provided architectural and structural design services for this project. We also coordinated mechanical and civil services

Pick n' Save

Pick n' Save

Oak Creek, WI

Completed in September 2003, this new 75,000 square foot store replaced an existing Pick ‘n Save Mega Food Center. The exterior features brick and stone on the front of the store; three architectural towers with long span arches and standing seam roofing; and an attractive continuous overhang clad with a specialty architectural stone product. The interior of the store is open and inviting, utilizing long span trusses to achieve a modern, exciting space.

The design of this building was coordinated with the design of the façade alterations to two other buildings on the same site. The result is a harmonious look to the entire shopping center.

Roundy’s (Pick ‘n Save’s parent company) required an aggressive construction schedule. To achieve this, Phillips, Milewski & Associates chose load bearing pre-cast concrete wall panels because this system allowed for extremely fast erection. As a result of this and other strategic choices, the total construction time was slightly over four months.

Phillips, Milewski & Associates provided architectural, structural and site development designs for this design/build project.

Floor Tech

Floor Tech

Sturtevant, WI

Completed in 2006, this 25,000 s.f. building is home to Floortech Interiors and two tenant lease spaces. Floortech’s showroom, sales and corporate offices and warehouse are all housed in this building.

The exterior is clad with stone veneer and stucco. The main entrance has abundant natural light from the tall windows in the entrance tower (see photo above.) The interior design was the work of Floortech, and it serves as a working showroom of their capabilities.

The building is constructed of load bearing pre-cast concrete wall panels and steel joists and joist girders. There are only four columns in the interior, allowing for wide open spaces for much of the building. A storage and conference mezzanine is located at the center of the building for Floortech’s office staff.

Phillips, Milewski & Associates provided architectural, civil/site and structural design for this project.

Prairie Drive Business Park

Prairie Drive Business Park

Racine, WI

The three 4,800 SF buildings at the Prairie Drive Business Park for Horizon Retail Construction were designed to express the beauty of the Prairie Style as developed by Frank Lloyd Wright. These single story office buildings are constructed with brick exteriors enclosing a wood stud frame. They can be leased as either single or multi tenant buildings. Every lease space was rented prior to commencement of construction.

Phillips, Milewski & Associates provided architectural, site and structural designs for this project. In addition, we provided the architectural layouts for all of the lease spaces according to the needs of the tenant.
